The use of internet has simplified many different tasks and has gained increasing dominance in our daily life. Subsequently, this reliance on the Internet has made us vulnerable to new types of security threats and criminal exploitation of cyberspace has grown rapidly. Cybercrimes are now a serious problem and people are now more concerned about their personal or business data. Consequently, cyber security is a field of science in rapid development which aims at preventing and detecting cyber threats. Machine learning provides a variety of techniques that are applicable to problem solving within many disciplines. The aim of this special session is to obtain an insight into the current state of the practice of machine learning applications in addressing challenges faced in cyber security.
